PRUNING, THE GESTATION OF A GREAT WINE.
Pruning is one of the moments when the wine begins to take shape.
The different types of pruning are generally determined by the type of wine you want to obtain. But also the amount of kg per ha that we intend to produce, the type of soil, the climate, the density of planting in the plot, whether the plantation is irrigated or not... all influence the way we prune.
In our vineyards we usually prune at 10 buds per plant which, taking into account the planting density of the vineyards, we obtain an average of 4000 kg per Ha. In the case of the old vineyards, pruning is similar but in these cases we rarely reach 3000 kg per ha, the average being 2200 kg.
At the time of pruning, other work is also carried out, such as the treatment of wounds on the plants to prevent undesirable fungi from damaging the plant. Diseased plants are identified and the areas where a plant has been lost are identified.
Pruning is the first moment when a great wine begins to develop.
