The 2024 harvest is coming
The 2024 harvest campaign is coming with a notable 30% reduction in production, which will undoubtedly mark a unique year in the wine history of our region. Despite this decrease, the varieties we will harvest, such as Tinta de Toro, Garnacha, Malvasía, Doña Blanca, Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel, promise to offer exceptional quality that could compensate for the lower amount of wine produced.
This year, the harvest is coming earlier than in past seasons, a phenomenon that has raised diverse opinions among experts. While climate change is a recurring theme in conversations about agriculture, it is important to remember that in the last 25 years we have seen years with significant advances in the harvest, as well as others in which it has been delayed. This generates a debate about the real influence of the climate on our production cycles.
Despite the uncertainties, we maintain an optimistic outlook. The phrase “our best vintage is always yet to come” resonates strongly in our wine community. In addition, the location of our vineyards, in an area that is not excessively humid, gives us an advantage: light rains are truly beneficial for the development of the grape.
In short, although we face a smaller harvest in volume, the quality of our varieties and the climatic context invite us to expect the best of this harvest. The resilience of our winegrowers and the richness of our land are factors that assure us that, despite the challenges, the future of our winemaking remains promising.
